Vigilantes
Vigilantes, Inc. is a new documentary by investigative reporter Greg Palast – a friend for many years on the election protection beat.
I thought the title was metaphorical until I saw the film. It’s not metaphorical. An actual group of people have proudly named themselves Vigilantes, Inc. They carry guns and say their intention is to protect
democracy by allowing only legal voters to vote. Trouble is, their means of identifying who is legal is vague as hell and redounds to judging on looks and names, without any other criteria. This is not only dangerous and anti-American, it is, not to mince words, criminal suppression of innocent people’s rights to vote.
This organizing we saw on Jan. 6 is reflected in the organizing going on around suppressing the vote. Combining it with guns is undermining our country. We all have our right to our opinion. But when it crosses into intimidation by threats of violence – and real violence – it is unlawful. When it involves bureaucratic purging of voter rolls based on criteria that captures masses of innocent legal voters – and the officials know it – this is also criminal. But so much of it is going beneath the radar. Greg Palast
provides the radar. Problems can’t be solved until they’re known about and identified correctly Watch this movie. Greg is streaming it for free on his website – for democracy’s sake. George DiCaprio (Leo’s dad) is an exec producer, and wants as many people as possible to see it. So the paywall’s down.
